For those who love seeing their photographic subjects up close, here’s a real treat. The Close-up Photographer of the Year (CUPOTY) has revealed the shortlisted images of its 2024 contest, and if you’re into close-up and macro photography like me, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this gallery.
25 judges took 20 hours of Zoom calls to assess the staggering 11,681 photos across 11 categories:
- Animals
- Insects
- Butterflies & dragonflies
- Arachnids
- Invertebrate portrait
- Underwater
- Intimate landscape
- Plants
- Fungi
- Studio art
- Young (u18s)
Personally, I can’t imagine what was harder – choosing the best among all these amazing images or sitting through all those Zoom meetings. But all jokes aside, the jury selected the shortlisted close-up, macro, and micro photos, while the Top 100 pictures and winners will be selected in January 2025. Just enough time to recover and get ready for another round of Zoom. :)
In the meantime, enjoy the selection of the 2024 shortlists I chose for you, and make sure to visit CUPOTY’s website for the full gallery!
