The Canadian Rockies are some of the most photographed mountains in the world. However, they’re rarely photographed from the air. Enter Paul Zizka, a photographer who took photos of the mountain range as we’ve rarely seen them. In this article, we bring you some of his gorgeous images that will make you admire nature and its glory.
The Canadian Rockies are a truly magnificent place of contrasts. Rugged mountain peaks rise like protection of glacier-fed lakes, tree-filled valleys, and alpine meadows. According to some sources, they attract around five million visitors yearly! They range from hikers and walkers to photographers and birdwatchers. The night sky view is phenomenal, so stargazers love this place, too.
So, no wonder Paul was also attracted to this magnificent place. He has previously won awards for his mountain landscape and adventure photos, so I’d say he was totally in his element in the Canadian Rockies — and it truly shows.

Paul’s images have been featured on countless book covers and in a variety of highly regarded publications, including National Geographic, Outside Magazine, Wall Street Journal, and Alpinist, to name just a few. He has comprised his photos from the Canadian Rockies into a paperback book, Aloft: Canadian Rockies Aerial Photography. It offers a unique bird’s-eye view of this magnificent mountain, and you’ll see some of the photos below. If you’d like to have them all in tangible form, make sure to order Paul’s book and check out more of his work on his website.
