The Instagram outage hasn’t exactly been an unusual thing lately. However, we’re in the middle of an utterly strange one. If your account has been suspended and you haven’t done anything wrong, it’s not you, it’s Instagram. In fact, the app’s PR team has admitted that something’s gone wrong as the users get madder and madder.

According to DownDetector, there have been nearly 8,000 Instagram outage reports over the past 24 hours on 31 October 2022. As I said, this has happened before, but normally we’d only see it manifest differently. Sometimes we can’t open messages, sometimes the app crashes, or it misses certain features. But the latest outage has been having people banned even though they haven’t done anything against Instagram’s policy.

“We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account, the app’s PR team wrote on Twitter. “We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience.”

For some users, the app just keeps on crashing. It appears that it happens mainly for iPhone users, regardless of the OS and the phone. On the other hand, some users are seeing the number of followers going down. Ironically, even Instagram’s Instagram account has seen a decline in the follower count.

According to The Verge, things appear to be slowly going back to normal. “Some accounts are back online, and follower counts are going back up.” So, if you’ve experienced any of these issues, it looks like Instagram is really trying to fix this outage and get you back online.

I am able to get in, but the explore page keeps showing many of the same photos including a bunch I have already liked. I scroll and see the same photos, not all of them, but it seems like they really want me to see a bunch of the same photos.
