Is your focus a bit off? Canon introduce Precision Alignment Service to fix focus issues

Canon has announced its Precision Alignment Service to fix autofocus misalignment issues that may arise in both camera bodies and lenses. The service will restore optimal focussing to your camera gear if the point of focus seems to not quite be hitting the mark.

Over time, heavy use of lenses and cameras can result in very fractional changes in where the autofocus hits, leaving the photographer frustrated that they are always missing their chosen point of focus. This can be especially obvious when shooting with wide apertures and trying to get the eye of a subject in focus, for example.

Canon shooters will be able to take advantage of the alignment service by sending their equipment off to be perfectly realigned.

“Through frequent and heavy use of Canon cameras, there can be small shifts in components that may cause slight changes in focus accuracy over time,” writes Canon in a press release. “Canon Precision Alignment service can fix these minor, yet frustrating focus misalignments, thanks to expertly trained Canon technicians running the necessary diagnostics and performing the appropriate adjustments.”

Photographers will be able to send either a lens, a camera body or both. Alternatively, you can request your eligible camera body or lens to be focus matched to a Canon test product. If you’re just sending one or two lenses then you can select which camera body you would like them aligned to. You can additionally send two camera bodies to be aligned with a single lens.

At the moment this service is only available to Canon users based in the USA. And of course, charges will apply depending on the services you require.

Still, if your lenses are really out of whack it might be a good investment rather than trying to fiddle about with doing it yourself.
