Cosina has announced three new Voigtlander 35mm f/2 lenses. One of them is the Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 35mm F2 Aspherical Type II VM for Leica M, available in Black or Silver and the other two are Leica M and Sony E mount versions of the Voigtlander Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2 Aspherical VM.
The horrendously named Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 35mm F2 Aspherical Type II VM (we’ll just call it Ultron 2 from here on out) is an update to the existing Ultron 35mm F2 Aspherical lens. It’s designed to be small and compact, which is the opposite of the Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2, which seems to strive for image quality above all else.
Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 35mm F2 Aspherical Type II VM – ¥90,000 (~$850)
This lens seems largely unchanged from its predecessor, at least in outward appearance, although there are some slight differences. It’s an all-metal design, with a focusing lever instead of the focusing knob of the Type I. No lens hood is included with the lens, although an aluminium one is available separately for either 10,000 (~$95) for the LH-12 or ¥6,000 (~$57) for the LH4N.

Voigtlander Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2 Aspherical VM -¥120,000 (~$1,133)
The Voigtlander Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2 Aspherical VM also features all-metal construction, although as you can tell, it’s not quite as compact as the Ultron 2. It’s a bit chunkier, coming in at twice the physical size and 50% heavier than Ultron 2 and has an apochromatic design, to help eliminate as much ghosting, flaring and aberration as possible to produce the cleanest, sharpest image.
