The GaffGun Straighten, Tapes and Secures Cables In Seconds

If you ever had a set with lots of cables you know how important it is to have them all secured. Even with the best insurance plan you really don’t want anyone stumbling over one of the ‘bumps’. In the ‘good’ scenario, they will stumble curse a little and continue, in the medium scenario they will fall. And in the worse scenario they will take down your $20,000 lights.
So what do you do? You get down on your hands and knees gaff like crazy. Sadly, Gaffing a cable to the floor, while classified as grantwork, is not an easy task. It involves tapping small bits of gaff on the cable and then going back and reapplying gaff to the whole thing.
And this is what the GaffGun is here to solve. The GaffGun is somewhat of a packaging tape dispenser on steroids. You drop a Gaffer roll in the thing and simply roll it on the floor. It has rails to guide the cables and securely gaff them to the floor. This means that it is almost trivial to run cables in a straight line.
I think this could be a great time saver. But as with all good things, it comes with a price. $200 to be specific .(The gun should ship in December but you can already pre-order now.) If you’ve watched the demo you know it can save huge amounts of time. Will you shall the bucks?

P.S. it has been said before by Archimedes: “Give me enough Gaff Tape and I shall move the earth“

Very nice!
$200 for a big tape dispenser? I’m expecting a $15 Chinese knock-off in 6 months time…
$200 hahahahah idiots.
More like $35 or GTFO.
For a split second I thought this gadget would take my cables which I have coiled up the wrong way for years and straighten them…..no. I was so excited.
funny, that was what I thought when I first saw the photo and name too :)
Andy Lawson u know you want one
That is slick! That’s not only useful for securing cables for photography shoots, but also securing audio, video, and power cables for conferences.
That’s awesome!!!
Although some may find this product useful, if you do this for a living, you probably don’t want to tape your cables to the floor with Gaff tape.
Why? because when you pull Gaff tape up it tends to curl around the cord, and is very difficult to get off, especially when yoiu can not use a knife on the cord.
As cute and clever as this gizmo is, buy yourself a roll of Cable Path tape that is designed for this purpose. It has no glue in the center, it is visible, and you can pull a cable out if you decide you need it without lifting the tape. This is what Pro’s use.

1 – Gaff Tape is what the Pro’s use. I’ve been doing live AV for 13 years.
2 – If you use Duct Tape it will stick to the cords, but never had the problem you describe with Gaff Tape
3 – They are selling “Dry Channel” tape which is the same as Cable Path tape for this.
All that said, I would like to see a review from a third party, before I spend the money on it. If it works like it shows in the video, It’d pay for itself in one show. However, I have a feeling that my guys would spend more time getting the cables just right, then they’d save by just taping them down by hand.
HI Josh:
I have been doing this for 28 years as a Professional. I have seen Gaff Tape curl and stick to cords. Only idiots use Duct tape. Of course if you are really careful, you can get the Gaff up without curling it around the cables, but most people are in a rush and trying to Strike quickly, which is why I do not recommend this method.
