Samsung’s new sensor paves the way for 64MP smartphone photos

Samsung has announced today the world’s first 64-megapixel sensor for smartphone cameras. The ISOCELL Bright GW1 expands Samsung’s 0.8μm image sensor lineup from existing 20Mp to ultra-high 64Mp resolutions.

Along with the ISOCELL Bright GW1, Samsung has launched another variant, the 48MP ISOCELL Bright GM2. The GW1 can produce 16Mp images in low-light conditions, while in bright light you can get highly detailed 64Mp shots. It also supports real-time HDR of up to 100-decibels (dB) that should provide richer hues than those you get with conventional sensors.
Both Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 and GM2 are currently sampling and mass production is expected in the second half of 2019. And of course, we still have to see when they’ll be implemented and how they will perform in action, but I am looking forward to seeing the results.
