Woah. This is something we weren’t expecting at CES. Nikon has officially unveiled the Keymission 360, a 4K-resolution 360º action cam built with virtual reality (VR) in mind.

While details are still coming out, the camera utilizes a cuboid form-factor, with the large lens (not sure whether glass or plastic) placed dead-center on both sides of the industrial-looking device.

As you would expect from an action camera, the Keymission 360 is shockproof to 2 meters (6.6 feet), and waterproof to 30 meters (100 feet). The camera is designed to be mounted on various platforms, a la GoPro, and looks like it can take just as much, if not more of a beating than other action cams on the market.

From markings on the casing of the camera, it appears the camera will offer built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, presumably to allow a smartphone or tablet to act as its viewfinder.

Below is a promotional video from Nikon Australia showing off the Keymission 360 in action:

Nikon is keeping its lips sealed on the detailed specs, but we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we hear them.
