Touptek Astro has emerged as a serious player in the deep-sky imaging market. Known for building reliable, affordable, and high-performance CMOS astronomy cameras, the company now offers fully integrated imaging bundles. These bundles revolve around their powerful ATR533M cooled monochrome camera and include everything a serious imager needs to get started with LRGB and narrowband imaging. Each kit contains four major components: camera, filter wheel, filter set, and off-axis guider. While the camera and guider remain the same across both kits, the filter wheel and filters vary in size, suiting different telescope setups and imaging goals.

The heart of the system: Touptek ATR533M camera

At the center of both bundles is the Touptek ATR533M, a powerful cooled monochrome CMOS camera. It uses the Sony IMX533 sensor, which is known for its square 1-inch format, zero amp glow, and excellent noise performance. The camera captures 9-megapixel images with a resolution of 3008 x 3008 pixels. Each pixel measures 3.76 microns, making it suitable for a wide range of focal lengths. The ATR533M is designed with deep-sky imaging in mind. It features dual-stage TEC cooling that can lower the sensor temperature by up to 45°C below ambient. This helps reduce thermal noise and allows long exposures with clean results. A built-in dew heater and sealed chamber keep moisture at bay, ensuring consistent performance over time.

The camera connects via USB 3.0 for high-speed data transfer and offers an ST4 autoguiding port for easy connection with a guide scope or off-axis guider. It also supports 14-bit ADC, providing high dynamic range for capturing faint details in nebulae and galaxies. Whether you’re shooting broadband LRGB images or narrowband H-alpha, OIII, and SII frames, the ATR533M delivers clean, high-resolution images with excellent contrast and detail. Its square format also simplifies framing, especially for deep-sky targets.

Off-axis guiding made easy: Touptek OAG-L

Both bundles include the Touptek OAG-L, a high-quality off-axis guider designed for large sensor cameras. It helps eliminate the need for a separate guide scope, which is especially useful when using compact setups or fast focal lengths. Off-axis guiding improves tracking precision by using the same optical path as the main camera, avoiding flexure. The OAG-L features a large 10×10 mm prism, making it easier to find a suitable guide star even with narrow-band filters. It offers adjustable helical focusing for the guide camera, ensuring sharp and accurate guiding performance.

Made from CNC-machined aluminum, the OAG-L is both lightweight and sturdy. It comes with a full set of adapters, ensuring compatibility with various filter wheels and telescopes. The optical backfocus is well-matched to the ATR533M and AFW series filter wheels, providing a seamless imaging train. Using an OAG like the Touptek OAG-L improves guiding accuracy and simplifies setup by reducing the number of components. It’s an excellent choice for those aiming for pinpoint stars during long-exposure imaging.

Precision filter control: Touptek AFW filter wheel

The two bundles differ when it comes to the Touptek AFW (Automatic Filter Wheel). One bundle includes the AFW 1.25″/31mm model, while the other comes with a larger 36mm unmounted version. The key difference lies in filter size and suitability for fast optical systems.

The AFW 1.25″/31mm wheel is ideal for setups with f/5 or slower telescopes. It supports up to eight 1.25-inch or 31mm filters and offers reliable, low-power operation. The motorized filter wheel uses high-precision stepper motors for quick and accurate switching between filters. It connects via USB and works with all major imaging software like NINA, SGP, and ASCOM-compatible platforms.

Price of the AFW-M-8×1.25inch: $240

The AFW 36mm version is better suited for faster optical systems or larger imaging circles. It allows users to avoid vignetting that can occur with smaller filters in fast scopes (like f/3.5 or f/4 Newtonians). Like its smaller sibling, the 36mm AFW supports 7 filter slots and maintains the same robust construction and control system.

Complete filter coverage: LRGB + SHO filter sets

Touptek bundles both imaging kits with a full LRGB + SHO filter set, giving users the ability to shoot stunning color and narrowband images from the start. However, the filter sizes and formats differ between the two bundles.

The first bundle includes 1.25-inch mounted filters, which are more affordable and compact. These filters work well with telescopes of moderate speed (f/5 or slower) and are easier to handle. The mounted design also protects the glass and simplifies cleaning.

The second bundle includes 36mm unmounted filters, designed for fast optical systems and larger sensor formats. These filters offer a wider clear aperture, reducing vignetting and allowing better light transmission across the full field. This makes them ideal for users shooting with fast Newtonians, refractors, or wide-field astrographs.

Both sets include Luminance (L), Red (R), Green (G), and Blue (B) filters for broadband imaging, as well as H-alpha (Ha), Sulfur-II (SII), and Oxygen-III (OIII) filters for narrowband imaging. The filters are parfocal, ensuring you don’t need to refocus when switching between them.

The bundles

Both bundles are priced at $1,299 and are available via the official website till 15th July 2025.
