The new AI-powered Roto Brush 2.0 for After Effects is now in the public beta and it’s amazing

Adobe After Effects hasn’t seen a big update in a little while, and it seemed to have been skipped over during last month’s big update – although, even if it had, the new app icons would’ve still probably stolen the show. But a little teaser was posted about an upcoming feature – the AI-powered Roro Brush 2.0.

The new tool is now available in the latest public beta of After Effects, and Jordy and the team at Cinecom took it for a spin. If their video is anything to go by, it looks pretty incredible and may potentially negate the need to ever use a green screen again for a lot of shots.

The whole web seems to be buzzing with talk about The Mandalorian right now. After finally watching it, and realising it wasn’t a show about a “Half man, half Delorean“, I can see why. I’m not going to post any spoilers here, but if you haven’t seen it, and you’re at all a fan of Star Wars, you should. It’s probably the best thing they’ve done with it in a while.

They finish what they’re doing, turn to walk away, and the reflection stays there, with a stupid evil grin on its face. This town in Iceland has a floating zebra crossing to slow down drivers

Of course, it’s not really floating, it’s an optical illusion. Painted on a road in the fishing town of Ísafjörður in Iceland, the crossing appears to float in the air. At least, that’s how it appears to drivers coming up the road. It’s sure to make those who haven’t seen it before think twice before speeding through it, especially if people are waiting to cross. Well, many of them, at least.

How to stretch and bend time with long exposure video effects

Long exposure effects with video can create some very cool results. This particular video from cinematographer Dan Marker-Moore is a particularly good example of that.  Dan’s known for his outstanding time slice work, and very cool time related video effects. And in this video project for Toyota, he does not disappoint.

It’s a very interesting long exposure type effect, that uses multiple frames of video to create a sort of time warp, amongst other things. Using nothing but standard After Effects with no 3rd party plugins, he creates a fantastic looking final result.
