A family visit to a museum turned out to be a life-changing and possibly life-saving event for one woman, all thanks to a thermal camera. When she visited Camera Obscura and World of Illusions in Edinburg, the thermal camera detected that she had breast cancer while it was still in an early stage.
We’ve heard many stories of people doing all sorts of stupid things with their drones. But thankfully, there is also a different kind of people, those who use their drones to do something good. Aerial photographer Steve Fines is one of them. He recently used his drone and a thermal camera to help find a missing six-year-old boy and his dog. Thanks to him, the boy and his pet were located and brought back to safety.
DJI has expanded their line of cameras for industrial use with Zenmuse XT2, a thermal imaging camera equipped with side-by-side visual and thermal imaging sensors. The company describes it as “the next generation of commercial froe solutions.” With this new camera, DJI wants to expand the purpose of its enterprise drone platforms. They put the focus on tasks such as infrastructure inspection and agriculture, firefighting and search and rescue.
It’s getting pretty hard to innovate with action cameras these days. They pretty much already have all the features most users could ever need now. The only real way to go up now is to improve the quality. Better picture, better dynamic range, better sound, less compression, and so on. The folks at FLIR, though, have very different ideas.
They’ve just announced the new FLIR Duo, FLIR’s entry into the action camera world. What’s so special about it? Well, as well as having a regular 1080p video sensor, it also contains a Lepton thermal imaging sensor. That’s right, this little action camera can see heat. Your drone can now literally become the Predator, and it even has video output for streaming with FPV systems.
If you’ve ever seen thermal imaging footage, there’s a good chance it was captured with an infrared camera developed by Oregon-based FLIR Systems, a company that specializes in the design and manufacturing of thermal imaging cameras.
It’s for that reason that drone manufacturer DJI has teamed up with FLIR to create the Zenmuse XT, a thermal imaging camera and gimbal designed to be used on DJI’s Inspire and Matrice 100 drones.[Read More…]
If you’re in the market for an extremely fast telephoto lens, Abex UK has just what you need, with a few minor caveats.
The first is the lens is currently listed for a draw-dropping $387,000, and another is that you will require a bit of help lugging around this supersized 18 kg (40-pound) lens.
Also important to note is that the can of tomato soup is NOT included in the price.
