Venus Optics has announced their new Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D S35 Cine lens, offering a massive 123° field of view, this lens covers the Super 35mm (APS-C) sensor format and features Laowa’s Zero-Distortion image tech. Despite being super wide, the new lens has a 77mm filter attachment on the front. Best of all, it’s pretty cheap, too, as cine lenses go, with a price tag of only $699.

The lens comes in its own foam-padded and weather-sealed hard case, keeping your lens safe during travel and in bad weather conditions. It’s available in several mirrorless mount formats including Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z and Fuji X, measures only 80.7mm long and weighs a mere 610g.

Laowa has announced four new cine lenses for the Micro Four Thirds system including a crazy wide Laowa 6mm T2.1 Zero-D Cine lens. This is the world’s widest rectilinear lens for not only Micro Four Thirds but any interchangeable lens camera system. The lens offers the equivalent field of view to 12mm on full-frame, offering an angle of view of 121.9°. As well as the 6mm T2.1, Laowa has also announced their new 10mm T2.1 Zero-D MFT Cine, 17mm T1.9 MFT Cine and 50mm T2.9 Macro APO MFT Cine lenses.

The four new lenses sit on the smaller side of Laowa’s cine lenses. As such, they’re extremely lightweight, designed for those hybrid shooters that might be using a compact rig or gimbal with a small follow focus motor, or even for popping onto a drone carrying a Micro Four Thirds camera to not impact your flight time too much.

Bokeh balls. I wasn’t aware that was a phrase but apparently, it is, according to this rather amusing video by Kai and Lok. In the video, they are having a look at two admittedly wildly different lenses, both with the feature of having very wide apertures and seeing what the bokeh is like for each of these.

Laowa’s new Argus 35mm f/0.95 is the widest aperture full-frame 35mm lens in the world

Venus Optics has just announced the new Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 full-frame lens for Sony E, Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts. Laowa says that it’s the fastest full-frame 35mm lens in the world and the first offer an f0.95 aperture. It provides a 63.4° field of view with “extraordinary shallow depth of field and creamy bokeh”. For the video shooters, they say it provides a long throw on the focus wheel and the aperture can run either clicked or declicked with the flick of a switch.

Photographer Richard Wong has managed to get his hands on one for a bit of a play and has put a video together going over its features and showing off some sample photos shot with it using the Nikon Z6. For the filmmakers, though, it looks like it might have a little more focus breathing than some of you would like. There isn’t a massive amount of focus breathing, but it’s noticeable.

It seems Laowa’s been keeping very quiet about a whole bunch of new lenses. Nine of them, to be precise, including an updated version of their unique and popular 24mm f/14 probe macro lens. But now the curtain has been pulled back a little after Venus Optics had them on display at a recent photography show in Shanghai, China.

As well as the 24mm T14 2x Macro Periscopelens, there’s a 10mm f/4 pancake for APS-C and MFT, 20mm f/4 C-Dreamer shift lens, an 85mm f/5.6 2:1 macro, a 12-24mm f/5.6 C-Dreamer, 6mm T2.1 and 14-69mm T2.9 cine lenses for MFT, 27mm T2.8 1.5x anamorphic cine lens for Super 35 and a 7.5mm T2.9 cine lens for both MFT and surprisingly, Super 35.

Laowa has released an automatic aperture version of their 7.5mm f/2 lens for Micro Four Thirds

Third-party lenses are wonderful things. They prevent us from being locked those manufactured solely by the company that makes our cameras. It provides us with options that the camera manufacturers don’t even offer. For some systems, though, they don’t always offer the same feature set as OEM lenses. For Micro Four Thirds, that sometimes means no automatic aperture.

Laowa’s original 7.5mm f/2 lens for MFT was one such lens. So, they’ve now announced a new 7.5mm f/2 lens for MFT which updates the old one with automatic aperture capability, allowing you to control your aperture from the camera itself and have that setting stored in the EXIF data of your images.

This whole Laowa Argus lens lineup thing’s been a bit of a ride. The first indication that they were coming was back in January last year. In March, rumours appeared of six new lenses coming, to be expected in 2021. In December, an image of a 35mm f/0.95 was leaked. And in January this year, it looked like the whole lineup might have been announced. Nope, it was just confirmation they were coming.

Now, though, the first Laowa’s Argus line is absolutely, 100% guaranteed, officially announced. The Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO is now a real thing, and it’s even on the Laowa website. Hold back your excitement a little, though. This isn’t one of the full-frame Argus lenses many have been anticipating. It’s for APS-C.

Venus Optics has released quite a lot of interesting lenses over the past few years. And now, four of the most popular and most unusual ones are available in L-mount. Venus Optics has just launched the L-mount version of two wide-angle lenses and two macro lenses: 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye, 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D, 24mm f/14 2X Macro Probe, and 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro.

Laowa 25mm, 33mm, 35mm, 45mm f/0.95 Argus lenses announced… maybe. Or leaked? Something

I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with these new Laowa Argus lenses from Venus Optics, but they’ve either now officially announced their first lenses in the Laowa Argus f/0.95 lens lineup, or the information’s just leaked (as it does). Or a mix of both. I’ve yet to see an actual press release, although different websites seem to variously report their existence as either an official announcement or a leak.

Anyway, these are reportedly the images of Laowa’s upcoming Argus 25mm f/0.95 MFT lens, 33mm f/0.95 APS-C mirrorless lens and their 35mm f/0.95 and 45mm f/0.95 full-frame mirrorless lenses, along with some specs. Here’s what we know so far…
