It looks like DJI is planning to make a big move in the small camera scene. After releasing the DJI Osmo Pocket, which has already drawn a large chunk of customers away from the GoPro Hero 7 Black, it seems that they may be getting ready to release an actual action camera, too.
A Chinese developer has exposed DJI’s AES private keys by posting them onto Github in plain text. By doing this, he made it easy to decrypt DJI’s encrypted flight control firmware. So, when it was discovered, it sent the man to jail and he’ll have to pay a fine of nearly $30,000.
The DJI Phantom line of drones are probably the most recognised drones around the world. But reports and circumstantial evidence suggests that the DJI Phantom’s time has come to an end. DJI representatives have even suggested the same, although DJI has officially denied this.
From the moment it was announced, the DJI Osmo Pocket became an instant hit with vloggers. But with great quality video and a tiny form factor that easily fits into your pocket while housing a full 3-axis gimbal, that eventuality was not much of a surprise.
One big issue for vloggers, though, is audio. Many choose to use external microphones. There haven’t really been any options for the Osmo Pocket to get external audio. There are various Type-C to microphone adapters out there, but none of them actually worked with the Osmo Pocket. Now, though, DJI has their own official adapter.
With the demise of the DJI Zenmuse X4S camera, some drone users have been looking for alternative cameras, particularly for mapping, to fit the DJI Inspire 2 and some other DJI drones. Of course, the recommended solution from DJI is to simply buy the Zenmuse X5s, but there is a pretty significant price difference there, at 3-4x the cost.
Australia-based Klau Geomatics, however, has other ideas. They’ve just released a gimbal for the Inspire 2, M200, M210 and M210V2 drones that lets you mount your Sony camera to take advantage of those large sensors, and get more control over the images you shoot from the air.
A Bloomberg report says that the world’s largest maker of drones, DJI, has discovered around 1 billion yuan (~$150 million) worth of employee fraud, and that “a number” of employees have been fired as a result. This number, according to the Financial Times could be as high as 29 employees – although DJI have not confirmed this.
Although DJI might be pushing the new Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom drones, the original DJI Mavic Pro is still a very competent drone, and still very popular. Many have stuck with the Mavic Pro despite the newer releases, and many are still looking to buy one, hoping to catch those deals.
Well, here’s a deal for you. B&H has the DJI Mavic Pro Fly More Combo on sale today for only $869. That’s $430 off the regular $1,299 price.
You might think that it looks like DJI just announced what is essentially their Mavic gimbal on a stick. And you’d be right, it does look a bit like that. But there’s a bit more to it than that. Yes, it’s a tiny 3-axis motorised gimbal, but this is no ordinary stick. This is the new DJI Osmo Pocket. A teeny tiny handheld 3-axis gimbal that shoots 4K 60fps video.
