Symmetry BreakfastWhen nutritionists say you need to have a balanced breakfast, I don’t think this is what they had in mind.

It’s called ‘Symmetry Breakfast’ and it’s a project by Michael Zee, wherein he creates extravagant breakfast dishes for his boyfriend Mark van Beek and arranges them in such a way that they mirror one another for an aesthetic feast that’s as delicious on the eyes as it is on their taste buds.

Michael says he’s not sure of the exact day the project was started. What he does know is that it began when him and Mark noticed that when set next to one another, their breakfasts were arranged symmetrically.

Like many self-proclaimed foodies, Michael snapped a photo and shared it on Instagram. One like turned into a dozen and as time went on, everyone started asking for more photos of their mouth-watering meals.

So much attention was drawn to the project that Michael decided to create a dedicated Instagram account. As of writing this the ‘symmetrybreakfast’ account has over 445,000 followers and almost 750 posts.

Michael says he now wakes up early to create his cuisines, oftentimes starting the prep work the night before. While traveling the world, he makes sure to arrange the meals in such a way that resembles his own cooking.

In speaking with The Guardian, Michael said, ‘People wonder if I’m crazy or obsessive […] but it is a declaration of love, really. I’m dedicated – both to breakfast and to Mark.’

Below are just a handful of beautiful dishes prepared by Michael.
