Ricoh has introduced WG-50, their new rugged compact camera. It’s a durable little point-and-shoot: it’s freeze-, crush-, water-, dust- and shockproof. It features a 5x optical zoom lens (35 mm equivalent 28-140mm), and it’s equipped with six LED lights around it. With these features, this camera has you covered in all kinds of adventures and allows versatility in shooting. And, it costs only $280. Let’s take a peek at the rest of the features and full specs.

Since this is a rugged camera, let’s begin with the durability specs:

  • Waterproof-rated to IPX8 for use underwater to depths of 45.9′ / 14m (JIS Class 8)
  • Freezeproof to temperatures as low as 14°F / -10°C
  • Shockproof to falls from 5.2′ / 1.6m high
  • Crushproof to withstand up to 220 lbf / 100 kgf of pressure
  • Dustproof-rated to JIS Class 6 to protect the internal components of the camera

When it comes to imaging features, Ricoh WG-50 features a 16MP 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor. It records high-resolution stills and Full HD 1080p video. The ISO ranges between 125 and 6400, and it allows continuous shooting at 10 fps. Like the previous models, it’s equipped with 6 LED lights around the lens, to assist macro and digital microscope shooting, and selfies, of course.

Summer is definitely the best time for announcing rugged compact cameras. Olympus has recently released their TG-5, and Ricoh WG-50 we presented today soon followed. Even though Olympus offers some more advanced features, Ricoh makes up for it with the affordable price.

It costs slightly under than $280 ($276.95, to be exact) and it’s available in black and orange. It’s out for preorders, and the shipping is expected in mid-June 2017.
