Nikon 24-105mm f4-7.1 Z

If you’ve been looking for a versatile, travel-ready lens without burning a hole in your wallet, Nikon has something new for you. The company has just announced the NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1, an affordable and lightweight zoom tailor-made for full-frame and APS-C Z-mount cameras.

Versatile Zoom in a Compact Package

With a 24-105mm focal range, this lens covers everything from wide-angle landscapes to casual portraits and close-up detail shots. Despite its wide reach, the lens weighs just 350g (12.3 oz) and measures only 4.2 inches in length. It’s the kind of lens you can throw on your camera and leave there all day.

And while f/4-7.1 isn’t exactly blazing fast, the lens does offer a solid 0.5x magnification at the telephoto end, making it great for macro-style closeups. You can focus as close as 7.9″ at the wide end and 11″ at tele, which adds to its everyday utility.

Autofocus and Handling

Autofocus is driven by an STM stepping motor, ensuring fast and quiet performance, which is good news for both photographers and videographers. The customizable control ring adds versatility for adjusting focus, aperture, or ISO without jumping into the menus.

Optical Construction and Design

The lens is built with 12 elements in 10 groups, including one extra-low dispersion and two aspherical elements to help keep image quality sharp and distortion-free. A 7-blade aperture ensures smooth out-of-focus backgrounds, while the lack of built-in stabilization means you’ll want to pair it with a Z camera that includes IBIS if you plan to shoot handheld in low light.
