Viltrox Brings Four Under $200 Full-Frame AF Primes to L-Mount

Viltrox has launched four new full-frame prime lenses for L-Mount, extending its Air Series to cover focal lengths from 14mm to 50mm. The lineup includes the AF 14mm F4.0 Air L, AF 20mm F2.8 Air L, AF 40mm F2.5 Air L, and AF 50mm F2.0 Air L.

L-Mount users have had fewer third-party autofocus lens options so far, compared to Sony E or Nikon Z shooters. That’s slowly changing, and Viltrox wants to be a part of that shift. Four affordable, native-mount primes with autofocus is a meaningful addition for Leica SL, Panasonic S, and Sigma FP users who don’t want to spend first-party prices.

All four lenses use STM autofocus with face and eye detection support, minimal focus breathing for video, and share a consistent physical design. That last point is important if you shoot on a gimbal: same size and weight means less rebalancing if you switch between lenses. They also support firmware updates via the Viltrox desktop app or directly through compatible cameras.

The weight differs, but not by much – and all four lenses are pretty lightweight. Viltrox 50mm F2.0 is the heaviest at just 205g. The lightest is the 20mm F2.8 at 159g. For context, Leica’s own 50mm Summicron-SL is over 400g and costs over $2,000. These are a different category entirely, but the point is that the Air Series is built for photographers who want to travel light and go light on their wallet as well.

On the optical side, each lens takes a different approach. The 14mm F4.0 has 12 elements in 9 groups with four ED elements, and a close focus distance of just 13cm, which is unusually close for an ultra-wide. The 20mm F2.8 goes down to 19cm. The 40mm F2.5 and 50mm F2.0 are more conventional at 34cm and 51cm respectively, but the 50mm brings an F2.0 aperture that’s useful for portraits and lower light. All four have a weather-resistant front element coating and a metal mount.

Pricing and Availability

As for the prices, the Viltrox L-mount 14mm F4.0 and 50mm F2.0 are $199 each. The 40mm F2.5 is $176, and the 20mm F2.8 is the most affordable at $168. Whichever of these you need (or if you need all of them), they’re available for preorders and should start shipping soon.
