TTArtisan Tilt-Shift 17mm F4 ASPH now comes in three new mounts for full-frame mirrorless cameras. This budget-friendly manual lens was available in Sony E and Fuji GFX mounts, but now Canon RF, Nikon Z, and L-mount shooters have it, too.
Tilt-shift lenses are a bit of a niche tool, but they’re incredibly useful for architecture, interiors, and product photography. With the ability to correct perspective distortion or selectively shift the focus plane, they offer creative control that’s simply not possible with a standard wide-angle lens.
With its 17mm focal length and a wide 104° angle of view, the lens is clearly aimed mainly at architectural and landscape shooters. The tilt and shift mechanisms allow photographers to correct converging verticals when shooting tall buildings or to experiment with creative focus effects.
The lens offers ±8° of tilt and ±8mm of shift. Note, however, that the two movements cannot be used simultaneously. The lens also features 360° rotation, allowing you to change the direction of the tilt or shift movement depending on your composition. Another note here: this rotation feature is not available on the Fuji GFX version.
Inside, the optical design consists of 17 elements in 11 groups, and the aperture uses 10 diaphragm blades. The lens focuses manually and has a minimum focusing distance of 0.3m, which should give you decent flexibility when working close to subjects.
When it comes to build, it’s a fairly substantial piece of glass, weighing roughly 1060g. That’s not surprising considering the mechanics required for tilt-shift functionality and the wide-angle optical design.
