Laowa expands OOOM Zoom series with 14-60mm T2.9 MFT and 20-85mm T4 S35 Lenses

Laowa has announced two new additions to its OOOM series of cinema zoom lenses. It kicked off in 2020 with the release of the Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 (buy here), bringing the total number of lenses up to three.

Like the 25-100mm, the first is a Super 35mm lens, the Laowa OOOM 20-85mm T4 (buy here). The other is the Laowa OOOM 14-60mm T2.9 (buy here) for Micro Four Thirds. It’s an interesting choice, and it’s great to see a new MFT lens.

Laowa OOOM 20-85mm T4 Super 35mm

The Laowa OOOM 20-85mm T4 covers a more than 4x zoom. It goes from a field of view similar to a 30mm focal length on a full-frame sensor down to the equivalent of 127.5mm at the long end. That’s a nice bit of reach on a Super 35mm/APS-C sensor for indoors and out.

It’s a parfocal lens, meaning you can zoom in to focus and then zoom back out without it shifting. Laowa says that when you do need to rack the focus, it has very little focus breathing. With a minimum focus distance of only 56cm and a focus throw of 284°, you get a lot of control for hitting your mark.

Laowa OOOM 14-60mm T2.9 MFT

Laowa OOOM 14-60mm T2.9 MFT also features more than a 4x zoom range, going between a field of view equivalent range to that of 24-120mm on full-frame. Its bright T2.9 aperture means it’ll be more useful in lower light conditions while providing a versatile focal length range.

It also has a large 284° focus throw and the same 56cm minimum focus distance. It looks like a very good all-rounder for Micro Four Thirds shooters. It will be interesting to see how some of the sample footage looks once it starts to get into peoples hands.
