SpinLaunch has created an alternative method for putting class satellites into low earth orbit. Their kinetic launch system is innovative and environmentally friendly – but when they add a camera inside it also becomes incredibly cool! The SpinLaunch team has recently used their Suborbital Accelerator to launch a camera into the Earth’s atmosphere. Naturally, it was rolling so its journey was captured in an awesome video.
The Suborbital Accelerator came to life on 22 October 2021. The camera launch from the video above was a part of SpinLaunch’s eighth flight test conducted on 22 April this year. This was also the first time that the engineering team tested the optical camera payload in the accelerator. It was launched into the atmosphere at more than 1,000mph, shooting its ascent up into the sky.
“Comprised of the key components needed for the Orbital Launch System, the Suborbital Accelerator is a critical stepping stone in SpinLaunch’s path to orbit,” SpinLaunch explains. “Flying with the digital camera system onboard marks an important step towards integrating complex payloads into SpinLaunch flight test vehicles.”
