You probably already know that a single light can give you several different looks. You can make five, six, ten different setups? Actually, you can get as many as 21 different setups with a single studio light. In this video, Dima Metkin will show you how.

Of course, you can start with the classic setup with a diffused light at the 45-degree angle above and on one side of the model. Change the angle of the light stand and have the light point directly at your model from the camera’s perspective. Remove the diffusion, point the light towards the ceiling and get a soft light from above the model’s head. These are only some of the basic setups. You can add a reflector, a V-flat to the equation, a grid, and gels to the equation, and get even more looks.

In the video, Dima guides you through 21 setups he created with a single light and some of the accessories I mentioned above. He gives you a sketch of each setup, the gear that he used, as well as the results he achieved, so you get the complete picture. And if you thought that there’s not much you can do with just one light… Well, I hope this video inspires you to experiment and see how many different setups you can come up with.
