With smartphone cameras getting better and more widely used, there are more and more accessories for mobile photography on the market. Profoto has decided to jump on the bandwagon and it has just announced two pocket-sized speedlights. Profoto C1 and C1 Plus are aimed at smartphone photographers, and these tiny, yet powerful lights can fit a palm of your hand.
Both lights are controlled through a dedicated mobile app, and also compatible with all Profoto AirTTL remotes. So, you can easily switch your smartphone to a DSLR or mirrorless camera. When connected to an Air TTL remote, you can also connect it to other Profoto lights and use them in various combinations.
When it comes to the design, the lights are round shape, tiny and made to fit your palm. They both have a color rendering index (CRI) of >90, so they produce colors very close to daylight. You can choose automatic mode, or set the light manually if you want more freedom and creative control.
The Profoto C1 and C1 Plus feature power levels from “natural” to “dramatic” effect (max 1600 lumens) and they allow you to choose between flash and flicker-free continuous light. So, you can also use them for shooting videos, not just stills. They are both compatible with Profoto Clic, the new light shaping tool range which includes three color gels and a grid.
A downside is that the C1 and C1 Plus are compatible with iPhone 7 and later. In other words, it’s not compatible with either older models of iPhone nor Android phones, but Protofo reportedly plans to launch an Android-compatible version, too.
The two lights are pretty similar in specs, but the Plus version is “a little more of everything.” Here’s a comparison of the lights:

Hahaha. 300 bucks and 500 bucks. lol
Can I be there when he sets up these lights and proceeds to shoot the Bride & Groom with a smartphone? I’d love to watch her go Bridezilla on him.
Was this what they advertised for a week saying it will change the world of photography forever? What a shit ??????
Gotta love how Profoto is trying to encourage the non professional fauxtographers with these
Michael Bray not just profoto… Nikon gave him free gear and even used him in their Z6/7 advertising and yet (at the time) his idea of taking a photo was spray-and-pray and fix everything in post ??♂️
Jyi Offer they really need to stop using noobs like him to promote gear
So, now they copy Godox? This was just released under Godox as well
Which light?
The Godox A1 was released around August 2018. It can shoot 700 full power shots and has continius light also. It’s $70 USD.
The Godox A1 can also be also a trigger for any Godox light. So if you really want to use your smartphone for a shoot, and that any smartphones as opposed to the Profoto only allowing Apple phones (Profoto is very exclusive you know…), you can. Not sure why you would do that but you can
Round RGB Mini Light R1 and LED flash RF1
Come on
I’ll get the Godox one ?
Godox copied ProFoto, so this is their comeback! :) lol
Profoto insists on pricing themselves out of the market. Next month Godox offers one for under $80. Also, there are several items bellow $50 that are excellent and already in the market. Arrogance and being out touch will either teach them or make them extinct.
