We have them to thank for putting out this video clip that shows us how to save money by using a cheap shower curtain to diffuse lights for perfect lighting. And if that weren’t enough, they also let us join them for a walk through of their color grading workflow.
The diffusion hack itself is ridiculously simple, not to mention a tried and true method that’s used even by some professionals. All you have to do is pick up a cheap shower curtain (usually under $10) next time you’re at the store. Use some A-clamps to attach it to a pair of lighting stands and place it in front of your light source. Viola. You don’t even need stands, you could clamp it to just about anything that you can find.
The color grading walk through is slightly more in depth. Ryan Connolly uses Red Giant Magic Bullet Looks for his processing, but he explains that everything he does in the Looks software can also be done in other editors as well. Take a look:
