Rollei_Prototypes

Leica’s Lisse store in the Netherlands has put 21 rare Rolleiflex cameras up for sale on eBay and every single one of them is a prototype.

The set consists of cameras from the following series: SLX, SL 66 X, SL 66 E, 6001, 6002, 6003, 6006 and 6008.

While the manufacturer might shut down soon, its heritage makes these prototypes worth big bucks.

Rolleiflex’s future seems to be at risk, but the astronomical price tags on these cameras come to show just how influential the company has been.

You can’t put a price on history, but you can put a price on prototypes. So how much would this collection set you back? A mere $177,950, or in other words, the same as 30 of Nikon’s flagship D4s or Canon’s 1D X. Worldwide shipping is only $250, if that helps sweeten the deal for you.

The store’s description on eBay states that it’s an official Leica/Rollei dealer that specializes in hard to find and collectable items and prototypes, and it looks like they weren’t exaggerating.

Below is the full list of cameras, as posted on eBay:

  1. SLX PR 903 (Prochnow book 5 page 1204 prototype) & Planar 2,8/80 & 6×6 back.
