Valentines Special: Couples Album

Valentines Special: Couples AlbumWith Valentines just around the corner and all, I thought I'd share one of the wedding gifts wifey and I got about seven years ago when we got married. Amongst all the gifts, this gift is the one single gift that helped us hold our marriage through some very rough times. Really, I cannot over estimate it one bit.

That said, it is full of commitment so only give it if you're OK with smelling your current significant other's morning breath for the rest of your life. If you are that serious, hit the jump for more details.

We got.......

An empty photo album. OK, it was not completely empty. It was just empty of pictures. Now comes the fun part.

Each page of the album has two parts - a picture that wifey and I have to duly make once a year on our anniversary. The other part is a short (identical) form that we will fill in on our exact anniversary date.

If we follow the instructions (which we so rigidly do) we will have a full memory of our entire lives by the time we get to be Eighty.

Here is what you will need:

One (1) photo album - I prefer the ones with pockets kind for this. This way it is easier to place the photos and notes. You can go with a nice album or get a really cheap one and decorate it yourself.

About Seventy (70) little forms (1/4 page each) with fun little questions. Ours have the following questions (replace Anniversary with Valentines):

The Card

Of course this is simply a suggestion and you can write your own (silly) questions. Especially if putting "kids" in there is a reason to terminate the connection on the spot. Also, you may not love the IRS Spartan look on our quiz - and you can make it look way, way better.

Valentines Special: Couples Album

Printing four of those on a page make them about picture size to place on each pocket opposite a picture.

The Images

Here is what Wifey and I had for last movie for the last seven years - each was taken on Sep 18 - Our Wedding Anniversary.

The first image was taken with a disposable cam at our wedding.

Now, it just so happens that we usually take this picture in the last minute, so they became kind of mugshots. We like it this way.

Of course :) I figured when I made this post that it may be to late for some.

On th eother hand it is a very easy and quick way if you are racing for that last minute and have no ideas. All the best for the upcoming anniversary.

That's a really good idea!  It's the kind of thing I'd do - except I didn't think of it!  We'd have 20 years worth this year.  I might have a go while wifey's away - I'm in the UK and she's 5000 miles away in Malawi (of all places!) for 2 weeks with a team from our church.  It's the longest we've been apart and our first Valentines day apart :0( .  I have some things I've already got planned, and I have 18,300 photos on the PC (sad but true, found out when I started to catalogue them un Photoshop.) going back to 2002, and prints going back to the 80's. Trouble id there's not many of the 2 of us cos I'm usually behind the camera and she HATES having her photo taken with a passion!  We have a large montage that she did for me some years ago of loads of photos spanning our first or 6 years with pictures from our wedding, the kids as todlers, etc. in one of those clear A0-sized clip-frames.

I love this idea. I had future times in mind, but of course this would make a great gift if you look back on your wonderful years. (assuming you can recall the price of a milk carton ;)

It is funny, how those projects get easier with the move to digital photography. Getting prints negatives from old albums / archives is way harder. on the other hand compiling a 20 years album is well worth the effort and would make a really memorable gift.

Well with the advent of digital, scanners and so forth, I'm thinking of doing a photobook for our 20th anniversary in July.  We have loads of photos that need scanning and re-touching, so I can start that while wifey is out of the country!

:-)

very cute idea! :-D

Great Idea!

If only someone had given me one of those 18 years ago when I got married. What a GREAT idea and now I know what I'll be giving as wedding Gifts from now on.

Wow... Thanks a lot for the idea! I love it!!

Great Idea!

I just got married in September, so the timing is perfect on this. I'm giving it to him as a Valentine's gift with our wedding day info. Instead of the price of milk, I put the cost of a gallon of gas, because I was able to find that online. Thanks for the awesome idea! I second that being a good wedding gift from now on.
