Venus Optics, the company behind Laowa lenses has just announced the release of their latest full frame lens in the Argus series. It’s a 45mm f/0.95 and according to the company, offers a field of view that is appealing and natural to human eyes. They go on to say that “With the super shallow depth of field at f/0.95, it easily creates a dreamy and romantic rendering.”

With a maximum aperture of f/0.95, the depth of field on this aspherical full-frame lens is incredibly shallow. Not only will it give beautifully ‘dreamy bokeh’, but is also useful for shooting in difficult low-light conditions, allowing for lower ISO.

The angle of view stands at 51.3 degrees, similar to the natural angle of view of the human eye. The lens delivers “incredible sharpness and high-contrast images even when wide open while obtaining accurate colour and minimal distortion.”

It has a de-click aperture ring setting for videographers, and internal focusing to minimise dust and to work better with external filters. The internal focusing design also reduces focus breathing. It eliminates the distraction of the changes in the angle of view when moving the focus from one object to another. Together with the accurate 300° focus thread makes it become the ideal lens for videography. It is, however, like most Laowa lenses, manual focus.
