Tokina has announced a new portrait lens for the Fuji X mount system. It’s the Tokina atx-m 56mm f/1.4 X, offering a field of view equivalent to that of an 85mm lens on full-frame cameras with a wide f/1.4 aperture. Adding to the Tokina’s atx-m 23mm and 33mm f/1.4 lenses, this completes their Fuji X trio covering the most popular prime focal lengths.

Tokina says the lens is “extremely compact and lightweight”, offering a good balance with the small Fuji X mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. They also say it offers “creamy and beautiful front and back bokeh” with great light intake, thanks to its large f/1.4 aperture.

Tokina has announced a new Tokina SZX SUPER TELE 400mm F8 Reflex MF lens. Yes, really. I know, it’s strange in this day and age to see a new reflex lens. For those who aren’t familiar, they work a little like certain telescopes, using internal mirrors to effectively increase the focal length of the lens without it actually having to be very long. They used to be very popular, but these days… not so much.

It’s been released for a whole bunch of different mounts (sort of), including Nikon F, Canon EF, Sony E, Fuji X and Micro Four Thirds. The lens itself appears to have a screw-on mount with a 42mm diameter and then adapters are used to mount it to the system you’re using. But I have to ask, in this day and age, why?

Tokina has announced its new atx-i 11-20mm f/2.8 CF lens for Nikon and Canon APS-C DSLRs. As an APS-C lens, it offers a full-frame field of view equivalent to roughly that of 18-32mm on Canon and 17-30mm on Nikon and it features a fixed maximum f/2.8 aperture throughout its range.

Tokina says that despite being built for Nikon F and Canon EF, the new lens should have no problem on Nikon or Canon mirrorless bodies using the FTZ and EF-EOS-M adapters for those respective bodies.

Tokina has announced that they plan to release a number of new lenses in 2020, including an 11-20mm f/2.8 APS-C for Nikon and Canon, 35mm and 50mm f/1.8 primes for full-frame Sony, but also three f/1.4 APS-C lenses at 23mm, 33mm and 56mm for Sony E and Fuji X mount camera systems.

These might seem like somewhat odd focal length choices, but 23mm, 33mm and 56mm on a 1.5x crop equates to the field of view you’d get from the pretty standard 35mm, 50mm and 85mm lenses respectively on a full-frame body.

Tokina’s line of 11-16mm f/2.8 lenses for APS-C DSLRs have been pretty regularly recommended for years. They weren’t perfect, but they were rather good for what they cost. Tokina has now announced an update to this lens, in the form of the new Tokina atx-i 11-16mm f/2.8 CF for both Nikon and Canon.

The new lens promises increased clarity and sharpness as well as greater contrast, coatings to prevent flaring and ghosting and aspherical and low dispersion elements to combat chromatic and other aberrations.

Tokina has announced their new “Opera” 16-28mm f/2.8 full frame lenses for Nikon & Canon DSLRs. Sitting at a pretty low price point compared to the Nikon and Canon alternatives, the new lens is targeted towards landscape, architectural and astrophotography uses. Of course, with a lens this short of focal length and this wide of an aperture, there are many other potential uses for it, too.
