First AI contest reveals its winners. Is real art dying?

Yup, it’s happening – we now have a dedicated contest for AI images. The inaugural BIFB Prompted Peculiar — International AI Prize has just announced its winners. As it was probably expected, the contest has sparked some serious debates, and I’d like to share the images and give my two cents on the whole thing.

Today in South Kensington, the Natural History Museum announced the winners of the 2023 Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. Believe it or not, this year’s competition saw nearly 50,000 photos from 95 countries! But there can only be one winner – and this year, for the second time, it’s Laurent Ballesta. His remarkable photo The golden horseshoe shows an ancient crab accompanied by three golden trevallies.

The winners of the 2023 Epson International Pano Awards have been announced. And just as always, we have ahead of us a remarkable collection of panoramic images from all over the world! This year’s overall winner is José D. Riquelme from Spain. His surreal Icelandic landscape landed him the first place as Open Photographer of the Year, and he has also secured the top spot in the Nature/Landscape category with three of his photos.

The wait is over – after showcasing its stunning finalists, the Ocean Photographer of the Year has now announced its 2023 winners. The first place was awarded to 25-year-old marine biologist and amateur photographer Jialing Cai for her stunning image of a paper nautilus floating on a piece of ocean debris.
