At CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Sony has unveiled a new smartphone, and photographers might be interested in it. Xperia XA2 features a 23 MP Exmor RS sensor in its rear camera. The front side isn’t all that bad either. It features two cameras, one of 16MP and the other of 8MP, with a 120° field of view.
Video shooters have been asking for it, and Panasonic has delivered. Panasonic has now announced the new Lumix GH5S aimed squarely at video shooters. It shoots 4K video at up to 60 frames per second, and the GH5’s 1080p limit has been knocked up from 180fps to 240fps. A reduced 10.28MP stills resolution offers double the pixel power for more dynamic range & ISO.
It also includes V-Log and LUT support, allowing you to store up to 4 LUTs in the camera which can be utilised either while recording or playback of files. A very exciting little camera for the video-obsessed Micro Four Thirds shooter.
A new, huge lens has joined the Nikon family. NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR is a super-telephoto lens with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter. It lets you extend the focal length from 180-400mm to 252-560mm on full-frame cameras. Used with crop bodies, that’s the equivalent field of view to full frame 378-840mm with the teleconverter activated.
The lens seems to be designed with sports and wildlife photographers in mind. It has plenty of great features, and they come with a price tag of nearly $12,400.
