The aurora borealis (AKA Northern Lights) is high on the bucket list for many travelers and photographers. It’s no surprise so many people want to see this incredible natural light show. Once you’ve seen it, the captivating feeling leaves you wanting more. But what gear is the best for shooting the northern lights? You’d need a wide, fast lens. Wide for framing and fast for getting lots of light in. Unless a miracle happens, you’d usually shoot long exposures for the aurora lights. While this works for photos, how would you film the northern lights? Long exposure is no longer an option. Well, I’ve come up with the ultimate solution.

3 Legged Thing’s unfortunately named “Morally Toxic” brand has released new camera bags

The tripod company 3 Legged Thing has started up a new company making bags and it’s called “Morally Toxic” – which seems a rather odd and unfortunate choice of name to me. According to company founder, Danny Lenihan, the name comes from mixing two ideas “Morally” from its apparent ethical production methods and “Toxic” because it wants to break from the “dull” and “corporate-looking” aesthetic of more traditional bags.

Personally, I’m not sure I know anybody who’d walk around proudly bearing a tag that labels them as “morally toxic” – I think I’ve blocked most of the people who would fall under that particular umbrella. But still, let’s take a look at the bags.

No Sandbags? No Problem, Just Bury Your Tripod

Here is an interesting problem to have. What would you do if you wanna shoot in the middle of the desert, but don’t have any sand bags available? Photographer and Light painter Eric Pare (previously) had just this problem when he was shooting in the Sahara Desert in Morocco. Yes, that thing made out of sand. Having no access to sandbag in the middle of the desert, Eric simply buried his 3LT Keith tripod in the sand. Kinda like having the entire desert as one huge sand bag. The results are totally worth it:
