Okay, we know you’ve been hungry for some DIY projects, and while this clip is geared towards the video crowd, there’s still a lot of useful ideas that can be incorporated into a still photography project, too. The guys over at Film Riot came up with these DIY props and set decorations for their short film, U.F.Oh Yeah. Staying true to form, they delivered with a great clip to show you how to replicate some of their prop hacks.
I like this quick tutorial because it reminds us to keep thinking beyond the subject matter. A strong background and solid set design can make or break a photograph. Among the tips covered in the video include a way to, how to quickly give white printer paper a vintage newspaper look, and (my personal favorite) custom printed chocolate bars.
Even if the specif DIY hacks mentioned in the video are not helpful to your style of photography, there’s still a lot of inspiration to be gained from the clip to help get those wheels turning. “For me all these little things add up to a whole lot…It’s a solid way to convey character to your audience with very little and subtle touches. So, next time you’re prepping your audience, don’t forget the little things.”
