How to get the Fuji classic negative look to your X-Pro2/X-T2

You can get the Fuji classic negative look to your X-Pro2 or X-T2 and save yourself from buying a new camera.
From what I’ve seen, the new Fuji Classic Negative film simulation is generous on the blue and green level, while remaining somewhat warm and keeping a low contrast.
Here is how to achieve this look
- Go in Image Quality (I.Q.) menu.
- Select 400% dynamic range.
- Select Classic Chrome film simulation;
- Grain Effect at strong, just for the heck of it (to keep the “pure photography experience”;
- White balance: Auto, R: -2 B: +4
- Highlight tone to 0;
- Shadows tone to +0 (or -1 for the EXACT look, but I find it boring, so spice it up with +2)
- Color to -1
- Sharpness to -4
- Noise Reduction to -4
- Lens modulation optimizer OFF
Make sure to save all of that into a preset!

Well, I shot the first with my X-Pro3 using my recipe. So, hum, good enough.
Something I like to point out: It has a lot of character. Over-exposure offer beautiful sky and tones, while under-exposing gives character to your picture.
You don’t need to spend a $2400 CAD on an X-Pro3. Get an X-Pro2 –that is already spectacular–, cover the screen with some tape, and create a new preset in your camera. You save yourself over $1500, and that’s not a small change.

ps: Don’t buy more gear. What you have is good enough. Give your money to something like this one, made by a local girl from Whitehorse, Canada. Or go full boots on the ground to give your time in an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City. That’s what matters at the end of the day.

Not really the same, because the glass LCD still smears, and feels sticky. I put a screen protector on my X-Pro2, and covered that with tape. Works well enough for me.

Gaffer tape a flip compact mirror to the base and don’t tape over the lcd. Bingo!
Not bingo, the image is now upside down.

Looks pretty good. I shoot raw most of the time so I’ve been messing around in LR to get it close to the jpgs I took with your formula. I can get it close but the jpgs with classic neg applied has a unique look that for the life of me I cannot match. It’s gotta be possible.

Nice. But when you save it to a Q setting, the WB changes will be for all your Q settings :( The WB setting is not saved to the Q settings…
You wont save it in Q menu!
Ok, then I just misunderstood the “Make sure to save all of that into a preset!” thing ;)
How do you save the WB Shift?
I am not sure if one can save custom WB setting in Xpro 2 or XT2, I have only seen it in Xt3!

For the white balance: just select “custom” in the menu and save with the other settings … I did everything in 1 minute! ;)
I added as much as I could to my settings. Set the custom name with the settings eg CLASSNEGr-2b4 or something like that. Then in my settings select the custom setting and adjust the WB shift in there. Not too bad.

Perhaps many will be interested in how to use the Classic Negative camera profile in Capture One for X-T1, X-T2, X-T20, X-T2, X-Pro2, X-H1, X-E cameras.
Used the Mac OS platform for Windows there are similar programs for changing Exif data.
* Exiftool for Windows can be downloaded https://exiftool.org/, and the ExiftoolGui shell is also available
!!! It is important that the main program file is in the shell directory (ExiftoolGui) !!!
