Here is something to get your Saturday night going. nokishita-camera.com, a site that is usually pretty reliable, just shared what they say are the full frame mirrorless Canon EOS R photos and specs:

We already knew that Canon was planning to kick this camera off on Sep 5th, but looks like no camera goes unleaked…

According to Google Translate, the camera will boast a 30.3 Million Pixels Full Size CMOS sensor with a Dual AF autofocus system. 4K video and low light performance up to EV -6. The camera will have an articulating  LCD Touchscreen. On the connectivity size, the camera will have built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth as well as a microphone jack and a headphone jack. The camera is supposed to be dustproof and spill proof.

Battery-wise the camera will use an LP-E6N battery and an optional new BG-E22 grip.

EOS-R

Here are the specs “Google Translated”, along with the relevant photos:

EOS R
30.3 Million Pixels Full Size CMOS
Dual pixel CMOS AF

The ranging range is 100 × width 88% of the live view video display range
EV-6 low brightness autofocus
4K video

If we understand the size of the card compartment correctly, it will only have one card slot

Touch panel liquid crystal
Multifunction bar installed (2nd picture image)

Wi-Fi · Bluetooth installed
Dustproof drip-proof · magnesium body

Battery: LP-E6N
Battery grip: BG-E 22
Size: Width of about 136 mm × height of about 98 mm
Weight: Approximately 580 g

Size-wise, there is much to be expected. In the photo below, Canon FF DSLR vs the EOS-R both fitted with their relevant 24-105 lenses.

Mount: inner diameter 54 mm, flange back 20 mm, 12 pin

Mount adapter: “Mount adapter EF – EOS R” “Control ring mount adapter EF – EOS R” “Drop – in filter mount adapter EF – EOS R”

Both the specs and this photo, hint on a single memory card, a feature (or lack thereof) which was a downer on the Nikon Z6 and Z7.

Lenses for new EOS-R mount

Along with the camera, there are four lenses images leaked:

RF 35 mm F 1.8 Macro IS STM
Size: Approximately φ 74 mm × 62 mm
Weight: Approximately 306 g

RF 50mm F1.2L USM

RF 28-70mm F2L USM

RF 24 – 105 mm F 4 L IS USM
Size: Approx. Φ 83 mm 107 mm
Weight: Approximately 698 g

“But can I swim with it? How come it doesn’t have twenty lenses at launch? Yeah but it doesn’t do 4k at 120FPS”. – Emount user dealing with ridiculous consumers since 2015.

…lots’o’luck trying to change focus points in the winter while wearing gloves using that ‘apple’ touch bar thingy. I will admit the 28-70 ƒ2.0 is a nice touch!

Proof that one XQD slot is not a mistake, it’s the future. The format is not error prone like SD, and it supports huge capacities now and the next generation will support up to 2 TB.

Still, if you do lose that wedding photos, you are in serious trouble. I have 2 SSD in my computer backing up each other all the time. My Wordpress blog and my site are constantly being backed up by my service provider and I back my WP on top of their backup.

No matter how reliable anything is you need a backup.

Besides, I do what many photographers do after finishing a job, one card comes out of the camera and after it is put in its plastic case in goes in my pocket. The other card stays in the camera. If my equipment is stolen I still have the duplicates.

Fuji will still blow them out of the water with the XT3 and rangefinder medium format to come.

These 2 brands are slowly heading to the blackberry zone.
