I love it when people go to extreme lengths. That’s exactly what writer and director Kyle Vorbach did recently when he decided to fake his own life using just AI-generated images. Many of us have played around with the Lensa app or other image generators like Midjourney or Dall-E, but perhaps we aren’t seeing the huge potential for making ourselves into the influencers we’d all like to be.

Kyle started with a boring stay with his parents. So inevitably, he started experimenting with what he could produce with AI to give his life a little more zest. Strictly for fun, of course. But things began to unravel when he kept going and ended up faking his life for an entire month.

The first private mission to land safely on the moon is currently underway, and we’ve finally been treated to seeing some of the images sent back from space. Hakuto-R is said to be off to a good start, and judging by the images, it certainly looks that way.

At first glance, it looks like a photo of a crescent moon, a fingernail sliver that we are so accustomed to seeing. However, these images are of our own planet, a sort of farewell last look back as the rocket leaves Earth.

Production is underway for a new movie about the life of wartime photographer and correspondent Lee Miller. Filming has begun in Croatia, with actress Kate Winslet playing the role of Miller. The first production still of Winslet as Miller has been released, complete with a Rolleiflex camera in hand.

The movie apparently focuses on the decade of Miller’s life, which includes her time reporting the events of World War II. The former Vogue model-turned-war photographer captured many life-changing events with her lens. She was one of the first photographers to record the horrors of Nazi concentration camps.

Welcome to another edition of Entitled Celebrity Gets Sued! This time it’s Paris Hilton’s turn. Photographer Claudia Fiorella Occhipinti filed a lawsuit against Hilton for editing her photographs and posting them on Instagram without permission.

Occhipinti had taken the images for a specific ad campaign with Hilton for her Electricity Perfume line. The photographer claimed that her images of Hilton could only be used by Hilton to promote her perfume “in media, on packaging, or in advertising, and that no sub-licensing is allowed.”

Chinese authorities have set rules and corresponding punishments to try to keep up with the rapidly changing pace of AI-generated images.

The Cyberspace Administration of China, which keeps tabs on all things internet related, has passed a regulation on “deep synthesis” technology. The new laws will go into effect from January 10th, 2023, and effectively require any AI-generated images to have a watermark that defines them as such.

US Congress has introduced a bill to ban TikTok due to data protection and spying fears. The bill follows on the heels of a more recent bill that prevents government employees from using the app on government-owned devices.

The new bill is looking to outright ban the Chinese-owned social media app from American soil along with bills that would block transactions from any social media company in or influenced by China, Russia, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, or Venezuela.

Just when you’d accepted the verticle video format, TikTok goes and pulls a surprise on all of us and starts testing out a new horizontal full-screen video format.

The trial has rolled out globally but only to selected accounts, so if you don’t see it yet, don’t be surprised. It’s allegedly still in beta testing. This nod towards YouTube follows on from earlier in the year when TikTok began allowing longer form videos of up to 10 minutes.

Software giant Adobe has apparently fired 100 employees from its Sales department. This makes Adobe one of many tech companies slimming down in recent weeks.

Employees affected by the layoffs were allegedly given the opportunity to migrate to other positions within the company. Bloomberg reports that the decision included shifting “some employees to positions that support critical initiatives” and cutting “a small number” of other jobs.

There has been so much discussion recently about where AI imaging technology is going to leave the photography and other creative industries lately. It almost feels as though you cannot go online without reading about it (yep, guilty of adding to that, sorry, not sorry).

But in amongst those usual arguments are some not so often talked about points of view. In this video, Taylor Jackson brings up the elephant in the room when it comes to AI, which he believes no one is really addressing.
