Aputure STORM 1200x firmware update

Aputure, whose name has been synonymous with shaking things up in the lighting sphere already, just released something that many have been requesting. Aputure STORM 1200x firmware update has arrived, and it is far from a trivial patch. This one actually fulfills a request many have had since the product was launched.

When I initially saw the announcement, I stopped at “HSIC+ control.” That was enough to get my attention. The release, version 1.5, formalizes the Limited HSIC+ mode on the STORM 1200x. It also adds new DMX profiles that support the BLAIR light engine, effectively the brain behind this fixture’s color output.

Now, if you are already groaning because you have a STORM 1200x stuck in your kit, you might wonder what all of this really means in practical terms. Let me explain.

What Does Aputure STORM 1200x Firmware Update Actually Change?

This Aputure STORM 1200x firmware update lets you control hue, saturation, intensity, and color temperature more naturally. Now you can do that from the menu, via Sidus Link, or a DMX interface. This is a big deal for those who deal with complicated lighting rigging or require real-time adjustments on set.

There are now 20 new DMX profiles. Yes, twenty. Some of these are combinations such as CCT & RGB, Limited HSIC+, RGB and RGBA, and even CCT with x,y. If you are a color science buff or simply like to have more control over your lighting, this introduces a whole new level of flexibility.

It genuinely struck me how Aputure attempts to align the STORM 1200x with the rest of its high-end fixtures, such as the STORM 400x and XT52. I always look up to consistency across products like that.

I came across this update while catching up on recent lighting technology, and it really made me realize how firmware can completely alter a light’s character. The Aputure STORM 1200x firmware update is not about additional color modes. It is about restoring creative control to the people, setting by setting.
