If you’re a photographer, Instagram is one of the most popular ways to put your work out there. But it’s not that easy to get discovered and noticed among hundreds of millions of users. Certainly, there are some ways to grow your audience organically, and we’ve covered some of them before. But in this video, photographer Walid Azami teaches you one more trick to boost your SEO within Instagram and search engines.

You may remember that Instagram introduced Alt tags a few months ago. It’s created to assist visually impaired users, but it can also help you have your images more easily discovered. As an Instagram user, you are in control of the Alt tags on your images and you can easily add them to all your posts.

If you’re posting an image, upload it, apply the filters you want and proceed to the section where you add caption, tags etc. On this page, you’ll find the “Advanced Settings” tab. Open it, scroll down to find the “Write Alt Text” option, and click here. Now, you can add a description to your image, making sure to use as many relevant terms as possible.

You can also add the Alt text to the photos you’ve already posted, and it’s even simpler. Just open the photo, click on the three dots in the upper right corner and choose “Edit.” In the bottom right corner of the photo, you can click on “Edit Alt Text” and then write the description.

Along with other tips for growing organically on Instagram, this one should improve your discoverability, help people find you and of course, match you with potential clients.
