Camera designs have changed considerably in 25 years, from the early days of compact digital cameras to today’s sophisticated mirrorless systems. To mark the milestone, Panasonic has released an anniversary video looking back at the LUMIX lineup, highlighting the cameras and innovations that have shaped the brand since its introduction in 2001.
Titled LUMIX 25th Anniversary | 25 Years of Innovation, the video is a visual trip through the brand’s camera history. It brings together different generations of LUMIX cameras, showing how the system has developed alongside changing photography and filmmaking needs. Panasonic also acknowledges the photographers and filmmakers who have used its cameras throughout the years.

Twenty five years of changing camera designs
LUMIX started in 2001 with compact digital cameras, including the DMC-LC5 and DMC-F7. These early models helped establish Panasonic’s presence in digital photography, with the LC5 featuring a Leica lens.
One of the most significant moments in the brand’s history came in 2008 with the LUMIX G1. It was the first commercially marketed mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, introducing the Micro Four Thirds system and a camera design that did away with the traditional DSLR mirror box. This allowed Panasonic to build a smaller camera system with interchangeable lenses.
The lineup continued to expand into full frame photography and professional video production. In 2019, Panasonic introduced its first full frame LUMIX S cameras, with the L Mount Alliance bringing together Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma. More recent models have added features such as phase detection autofocus, high resolution video recording, and improved stabilization.

The latest addition to the anniversary lineup
The celebration also comes with a new camera release. In May 2026, Panasonic announced the LUMIX L10, a fixed lens compact camera available in black, silver, and a special Titanium Gold edition created for the brand’s anniversary.
The L10 features a Micro Four Thirds sensor and a built in Leica 24 to 75mm equivalent f/1.7 to f/2.8 zoom lens. It also includes phase hybrid autofocus with 779 focus points, image stabilization, and an electronic viewfinder. For photographers interested in in camera color, it introduces two film inspired Photo Styles, L.Classic and L.ClassicGold, alongside support for custom LUTs through REAL TIME LUT.

A quarter century of cameras, and counting
The anniversary video is ultimately a reminder of how much the camera market has changed since LUMIX first entered it. The brand has moved from compact digital cameras to systems used for professional photography and filmmaking, adapting its lineup as technology and creative demands evolved.
For photographers who have followed LUMIX over the years, seeing those cameras together is a chance to revisit familiar models and appreciate how far the system has come. For newer users, it offers a quick look at the camera history behind the logo.
