Beautiful Motorized Slider Built With Ardunio
Photographer and Videographer Stefan Kohler came up with a complete DIYed Slider system built on top of the Igus platform for bones, a stepper motor for muscles, and an Arduino for brains (and lots of hard labor for hearts).
The slider mimics the excellent Cine Slider from Kessler, only for a fraction of the cost in money and whole lots blood sweat and tears (of joy of course).
Part 1 - Building the Slider
Part 2 - The Electronics
Part 3 - Demo and Test Shots
Part 4 - Smoothness test
The entire project is open-sourced and documented on Stefan's site, if you don't speak German, here is a machine translated version.

translation...
Hallo,
thanks for publishing my links - i really appreciate this!
So, there is actually a english version of parts of my website (you find the language-switch in the upper right corner of the website).
Please feel free to ask if you're going to build your own slider - i'm happy to share my experiences with this thing...
cheers, Stefan
Re: translation
Hi Stefan,
Really appreciate you sharing this with the community. Some of the slider stuff was still under translation work, so I opted for google help :).
It's an amazing project
I hope to publish the second
I hope to publish the second version next week. using a gear motor instead of a stepper is way easier to build - and maybe smoother too.
So, if you're interested - i'm happy to help the diy-community.
Re: 2nd
Stefan,
This is great news.
please let me know when it's up.
Awesome!
@Stefan - Awesome! Great job designing and building your slider! I really like the analog controls you've built!
@DIYPhotography.net - Great project to spotlight, I just wish you included an approximate price to build your own near the top of the article... though cheaper than the top of the line, pro gear, this is still an expensive project... it had me drooling right off the bat! :)
Anyone that likes this would probably also like a similar project that you can buy in kit form from http://dynamicperception.com/ and the open source site that's somewhat related to that kit, which is http://openmoco.org/ (I'm not affiliated with either site - I just love these timelapse/slider projects!)
@PhrendThanks. Official
@Phrend
Thanks.
Official Prices: my Version costs me about 2500€, but i had to buy some stuff (like soldering iron etc), some stuff twice or in larger amounts.. Some things are burned while i'm working on it (for example the motor driver - i had 5 of them)...
The version i'm working at is about 700€.
possible to buy?
Hello,
Great work Stefan!
This new version for cca. 700€, will it be possible to order and buy from you? If yes, any idea when it will be availabe?
Hi Sergio, sorry - but it's
Hi Sergio,
sorry - but it's not possible for me to sell electronic stuff (German laws...)
Second version will be around in the next few weeks or so.
Really wish it was buyable...
...cause me and engineering don't match :) Really great work on this, how are things going with the geared version? I'm thinking I might be adventurous and try building it myself. Please keep me updated when publish the new version! Cheers!
thing are going slow....
Sorry for the late response.
I had to deal with a lot of stuff at the last weeks. Now i'm back on work for the cheap-version of the camSlider 1.5
Cheers Stefan
Great
Can't wait Stefan, seems I forgot to mention: Really nice work with the slider (v1), many thanks for sharing!
Hi
Hi Stefan!
Have you had time to work any on CamSlide 1.5?
How about the motor we were talking about?
Hope you are well.
