Johnsons Photopia – UK distributor for Sekonic, Blackrapid, PocketWizard, Peli and more enters administration

Johnsons Photopia have announced through their website and Twitter that they have now gone into administration. There isn’t a lot of information yet about how this came about, or how this may affect staff and future customer support for the brands they represent.

Blackrapid designs a camera strap for women inspired by how they “carry their babies”

BlackRapid has launched a new shoulder sling camera strap especially for female photographers. The Nicole Elliott strap aims to reduce the pressure on your neck and shoulders and to do it with style. But the inspiration for the strap has raised some eyebrows (including mine). The company emphasizes that “the way women have been carrying their babies for centuries” is what inspired the design of the camera strap for ladies.

Here is how to tell a real BlackRapid from a fake one

When we hear about fake products in the photography world, it’s usually memory cards. Cheap SD cards with fake SanDisk or Lexar labels being sold at well below market price. Sometimes, though, it’s even fake cameras and lenses. But there are a lot of other counterfeit accessories out there for cameras, too.

BlackRapid have recently taken to social media to warn potential customers about unethical retailers. It seems that some of them are bundling in low-quality unbranded components instead of the BlackRapid originals with their straps. Low-quality unbranded components that will void your warranty and potentially risk damage to your gear.[Read More…]
