Released back in 2016, the Canon 5D Mark IV has proven over and over to be an extremely capable and popular DSLR for photographers. Even today I see people every day debating back and forth on whether to get one or just go with a new-0ld-stock 5D Mark III to save a little money. Well, this sale will help settle that internal debate for you.

B&H is currently running a sale from now until Christmas Eve on the 5D Mark IV and EOS R with some massive discounts. Body only with the accessories kit is just under $2,000 while the kit including the 24-105mm f/4 lens sees a huge $1,300 reduction.

How to spend $1,000,000 on photography gear at B&H this Black Friday

While the world is looking for bargains today, we thought we’d look at the opposite end of the spectrum, the most expensive gear we could find on the B&H website this Black Friday. Our plan was to produce a setup that, if you won the lottery, you might actually consider buying. Gear that should work well together, and costs a ludicrous amount of money.

Can we actually spend $1,000,000 on photography gear? On a kit that could actually serve a useful purpose? I mean, sure, we could spend $233K on just one lens and adapt it to a Sony, but where’s the fun in that? Ok, scratch that, it does sound kinda fun, but it’s not exactly practical, is it? And that’s what we’re trying to look at here.

B&H recently made headlines after being accused by the New York Attorney General’s office of being short on sales tax by at least seven million dollars over the past 13 years. They allege that B&H intentionally miscalculated sales tax in order to make their prices look more attractive to customers to outsell the competition.

A statement has now been issued by B&H spokesperson, Jeff Gerstel, disputing these claims, stating that their approach is the same way the entire consumer electronics retail industry works, and that the AG just wants to tax New Yorkers on money they haven’t spent.

The Verge reports that the New York Attorney General believes retailer B&H has dodged over $7,000,000 in taxes in a lawsuit filed recently. It’s all to do with the “Instant Rebate” offers, which are common amongst online retailers these days. The suit claims that B&H has “cheated” the NY sales tax and that they “chose profits over principles”. The investigation and lawsuit come as a response to a whistleblower they say approached them in January 2016.

The competition on motorised gimbals these days is pretty intense. They didn’t even really exist a few years ago, except for small devices like phones, action cameras, and drones, but now there are a number of companies producing some solid piece of gear. And these companies are generally pretty secretive about new releases, right up until they’re ready to announce them.

One of the biggest names in gimbals is Zhiyun, who was pretty much an instant hit since they introduced their first Zhiyun Crane back in 2016, and they’ve been going from strength to strength ever since. It turns out they had a new gimbal on the way, the Weebill-S, but B&H broke the secrecy and leaked it ahead of their own official announcement.

Last week, B&H emailed customers who’d purchased EN-EL15b batteries from them. They said that some of the batteries were “subpar”. It was suspected that this was a euphemism for fake, and according to a statement released by Nikon to DPReview, the suspicions were correct.

B&H has sent out an email to customers who recently purchased Nikon EN-EL15b batteries. Nikon Rumors posted a screenshot of the email, which states that they received a “subpar” batch of batteries, and as they have no way to know which customers received which batteries, they’re sending out replacements to everybody, and advising that you safely discard the ones you have received.
