NASAOn November 6th 2015, US spaceflight corporation UP Aerospace attached GoPro cameras to a rocket as it ascended into the upper atmosphere and separated, making it the first-ever video captured from the outside of a multi-stage rocket as its separating.

UP Aerospace is a small, private company that specializes in affordable space flight and payload deliveries for larger corporations and organizations.

This particular journey was a test mission for NASA using UP Aerospace’s SpaceLoft rocket and the Maraia Earth return capsule launched from Spaceport America in New Mexico. Inside were four experiments from NASA’s Flight Opportunities Program, which funded the mission.

The incredible footage was captured roughly 75 miles into the sky with four GoPro Hero 4 cameras, all of which shot high definition footage at 120 frames per second.

All of the components ascended successfully and were recovered roughly 30 miles away from the launch area.
