Sigma announces NINE new native Sony E-Mount Art series lenses

As if Sigma hadn’t given us enough today. With new 70mm f/2.8 Macro and 105mm f/1.4 Art series lenses, we were already pretty excited. But Sigma also have an extra gift for Sony shooters. Both of the two new lenses today, as well as nine of their popular Art series full frame lenses are being released with a native Sony E-Mount.

A native Sony mount offers advantages over simply using the Canon mount version with the Sigma MC-11 adapter. Such as compatibility with Sony’s continuous (AF-C) and high speed autofocus. And you’ll likely see some Eye-AF improvements, too. Very handy if you’ve been eyeing up that new Sony A7III.

Sigma officially announces the 105mm f/1.4 Art series “Bokeh Master” lens

Now, this is one that Canon, Sigma and Sony shooters have been waiting for. For almost two years, the 105mm focal length at f/1.4 aperture has remained exclusively in the domain of Nikon shooters. Now, thanks to Sigma, that possibility opens up to a lot more people, and probably at a better price, too.

Available in Nikon, Canon, Sony and Sigma mount, the new Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art series lens is the second of today’s announcements from Sigma. The first was the 70mm f/2.8 Macro Art, in case you missed it. Being hailed as the “Bokeh Master” (I’m sure there’s a trademark issue there), the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 could become an instant favourite for portrait and wedding shooters everywhere.

Canon launches two cheap entry-level DSLRs for everyone’s budget

Aside from their long-awaited mirrorless camera, Canon has launched two new DSLRs: EOS Rebel T7 (EOS 2000D) and EOS 4000D. Both cameras are very affordable, so their primary goal could be making newbies join team Canon. Canon EOS Rebel T7 will be sold for $550 with a kit lens, whereas Canon EOS 4000D (body only) will set you back for only about $380. So, if you’re in search of your first DSLR, I guess Canon had you in mind. Take a look at the specs and more details under the jump.

Sigma launches the 70mm f/2.8 Macro – their first Art series macro lens

This is the first of a number of new announcements from Sigma today. They’ve finally added a macro lens to their Global Vision Art series lenses. That lens is the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art. With an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/22 and offering up to 1:1 magnification, this lens is likely going to be a big hit with macro fans.

While this is a full frame lens, it may be of particular interest to APS-C shooters. On Sony crop bodies, for example, it will offer the same field of view as the popular Nikon 105mm f/2.8VR Micro-Nikkor does on full frame. But it does it with a little more of that depth of field which is oh so scarce at macro distances. Unlike previous Sigma Art series lenses, this one’s available for native Sony E-Mount, too. Although, surprisingly, not Nikon, according to the press release.

The new Sony A7III boasts best battery life in a mirrorless camera ever – Over 700 shots per full charge

It’s finally here, the camera that many Sony shooters have been waiting for. The update to the gateway camera that convinced many to switch over to Sony’s system. Today, Sony has announced the new Sony Alpha A7III. With 4K video, dual card slots, 693 autofocus points, and 10fps continuous shooting, it’s a nice little boost over the previous generation Sony A7II – a camera which is now heavily discounted, by the way.

Looking like a cut-down Sony A9, the A7III also has pretty ridiculous battery life – for a mirrorless camera, at least. Boasting 710 shots on a full charge it beats everything else out there in mirrorlessland, and is stepping into DSLR territory. It also has an increased ISO range of 100-51200, expandable ISO50-204800 with 5-axis in-body stabilisation, effective up to 5 stops.

Panasonic announces new Leica 50-200mm f/2.8-4 OIS for Micro Four Thirds

Panasonic has announced a new telephoto zoom lens. The Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50-200mm f/2.8-4 ASPH Power OIS. It’s a bit of a mouthful, so let’s just call it the Panasonic 50-200mm f/2.8-4. Designed for Micro Four Thirds with a 2x crop it’s a nice long zoom for many Panasonic & Olympus shooters.

Laowa announces two new lenses: 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro and 9mm f/2.8

Laowa has introduced a couple of interesting lenses so far. Now they’re adding two new primes to their family: 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro and 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D. Both lenses come in several different mounts and promise high-quality image at a pretty affordable price. Canon adds a motion control head to its new 470 EX AI speedlight – but why?

Canon has announced a shiny new speedlight. The Canon 470EX-AI. It contains a new feature that’s apparently supposed to make life easier for those who use on-camera flash, but I’m really not entirely sure why. That feature is a new motorised head which allows the flash to re-orient its head when you “double half press” the shutter button. Call me cynical, but this seems to be a solution looking for a problem.

Canon’s new EOS M50 Mirrorless is finally official

There’s been a fair bit of talk about Canon’s new EOS M50 mirrorless camera, from secret meetings to image leaks, and then specs. But now it’s finally official. Announced today, the Canon EOS M50 mirrorless camera is here, and the specs are confirmed and final.

It’s nice to finally see some of the rumours squashed, and a couple confirmed. It also ends any speculation as to whether or not Canon were bringing back the eye-ball scanning autofocus viewfinder systems of the EOS5/A2e. They didn’t. It does look like Canon may have finally hit on the perfect combination of specs and stats to make the ideal vlogging camera, though.

How the new Cactus RQ250 compares to the popular Godox AD200

Thinking a little more about Cactus’ announcement of their new Cactus RQ250 wireless strobe, I got to wondering just how it stacks up on paper vs the current Godox AD200 unit. Obviously, it packs a little more power, but with the information that Cactus has released so far, what can we glean from it? If you’re thinking about stepping up from a basic Yongnuo speedlight system or want to start getting out on location with strobes, what’s your best option? Should you go Cactus or Godox?
