Even if we’re not told, nobody likes to have the realisation or go through the experience of failing at something. Many of us go through things in life that we’re failing at without even realising it because we just don’t understand what we’re doing wrong and how we could do things differently.
It can be even worse when somebody else points out that we’re failing, as photographer Justin Mott does in this video. But he does offer some fantastic advice on how you can stop continuing to fail and get yourself on the right track to a successful future as a photographer.
Justin’s video is geared towards those doing photography as a business and not hobbyists. If you’re a hobbyist and you’re only shooting for yourself, then have at it, keep doing what you’re doing as long as you’re happy with what you’re doing. But if you’re doing it to put food on the table and keep a roof over your head, then the video is well worth a watch.
His rant does go on for almost 15 minutes and covers a lot of topics and ways that photographers (and many other business owners) are failing in their pursuits. For some of us, we’ll take it personally. We’ll get offended. We should probably quit and get a “real job”.
For others, it’ll be a wake-up call. A source of inspiration to push ourselves to improve and do better. A way to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones to do things we didn’t even know we should be doing.
Which kind of business owner are you?
