Dobby drone maker ZeroTech takes aim at DJI with this folding Mavic look-a-like

ZeroTech, makers of the Dobby selfie drone appear to be working on something new. At least, they are if these leaked photos are anything to go by. Apparently called the “ZeroTech Hunter”, this new drone bears more than a passing resemblance to the DJI Mavic Pro. Well, it does when it’s folded up.

Opened out, the illusion is somewhat lost. Judging by how low this thing sits on the surface, it looks like a very pale imitation of the Mavic, although there aren’t many pictures to go by just yet. So, while it may be taking aim at DJI, it seems like it’s a poor aim.

This action camera comes with a built in 3-axis gimbal

3 axis handheld motorised gimbals seem to be the hot new toy at the moment. Electronic image stabilisation in small systems like action cameras and mobile phones sucks. Optical image stabilisation is rare, and still not amazing. So, a motorised gimbal helps to keep things smooth and steady and level. I got one myself about six months ago, the Zhiyun Smooth C, and they are extremely handy.

For Chinese drone manufacturer Zerotech, though, handheld gimbals just don’t go far enough. So, they’ve built one inside their recently announced Rollcap, and action camera that doesn’t require external motorised control. Photo Gear News got to check it out in person at CES recently.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
