Canon’s new flagship C700 Cinema camera will set you back up to $38,000

Canon have announced their new flagship cinema camera, and it’s quite a beast. It’s a much larger camera than the previous EOS C offerings, aimed at serious production. It’s also a far more modular design offering a lot of customisation.

With the optional Codex recorder, it captures 4.5K RAW video at up to 120fps. Internally, it captures 2K ProRes at up to 240fps, and 4K ProRes at up to 60FPS. It is the first Cinema EOS camera to support anamorphic shooting with a built in “de-sequeeze” function for external monitoring. It also features the same dual pixel autofocus technology of the 5D Mark IV.

Nikon Is Really Pushing XQD; Why Isn’t Canon?

SanDisk developed the CompactFlash (CF) format and manufactured the first devices back in 1994, which makes the technology 22 years old.

That on its own is enough of a reason to replace it, and it seems Nikon is doing its best to crown the XQD format as the successor.

Not only will the newly announced D500 use an XQD memory card, the flagship D5 will be available with either dual CF slots or dual XQD slots, and according to a recent rumor 90% of the new cameras will come with the latter.

The Crazy 5D Mark IV Specs Don’t Seem So Crazy Anymore

A couple of months ago we posted a set of specs supposedly belonging to a Canon test camera. Despite looking like a possible 1D X Mark II, that option was ruled out and it was mentioned that the camera could be testing an assortment of features that wouldn’t necessarily all show up in the same one body (or at all).

Another possibility was that the specs belong to the much anticipated 5D Mark IV, and recent rumors and developments seem to make this option a whole lot more logical now than it was back then.

Canon Is All Over 4K; Announces Two Camcorders, a Monitor and a Proprietary Video Format

Earlier today Canon officially announced the XC10 – a compact, fixed-lens 4K video and digital stills camera, targeting aspiring filmmakers and enthusiasts. The camera is a first step towards upgrading to one of the high-end EOS Cinema cameras.

Alongside the XC10 Canon also revealed the professional EOS C300 Mark II cinema camera, with impressive 4K capabilities and a dynamic range of up to 15 stops.

Not stopping just camcorders, the company has also developed its own video format targeting 4K professional camcorders and unveiled a new 24-inch 4K reference display.
