First impressions of the Godox XPro – The ultimate flash trigger?

A few days ago I received the new XPro trigger from Godox. Designed to overcome some issues with the X1T and XT32 triggers, the XPro has received a warm reception so far online since the initial announcement. But how well does it really work? And does it eliminate the issues of the previous triggers?

While I didn’t have many issues with the X1T myself, my answer is a pretty resounding yes. The XT32-inspired design is wonderful, eliminating some of the ergonomic issues of the X1T. It also has that great big LCD with a lot more buttons, which makes workflow a breeze.

Godox’s flash system has become extremely popular over the last couple of years. And while it now supports half a dozen different platforms one common point of complaint has been the triggers. Specifically the X1T. It works beautifully, but its user interface can be somewhat slow, clunky, and annoying.

Godox released the XT32 to help alleviate some of the UI issues, although it still leaves a little room for improvement. If a photo posted to Facebook (and then deleted) this morning offers any indication, though, Godox have made those improvements. It shows what appears to be a new XPro trigger for Canon. An XT32 style trigger with a great big LCD and a lot of buttons.

Well, this is a pretty cool and interesting development from the Godox camp. There’s a new firmware out for each of the five Godox X1T triggers. Five, because there’s one each for Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji and Olympus/Panasonic. Releasing a new firmware in and of itself isn’t a big deal, but what is interesting is what this particular release seems to add.

Recently we told you about the new Godox A1 flash trigger for mobile devices. It talks to your phone via BlueTooth and fires your flashes when you shoot a photo with it. Great for quick behind the scenes shots for social media. Now, though, it appears that you might be able to use the mobile app to control the flashes for your DSLR or mirrorless camera, too!
