It’s funny. Olympus seems to have actually become more prolific since they announced their sale to JIP. They’ve announced the new OM-D E-M10 Mark IV camera, the 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS lens, unveiled a new lens roadmap, and told us how their stabilisation works.

Ok, admittedly, that last one was filmed last October, but still, Olympus Europe has been going crazy on the video content lately. This one is really something, though. And no, it’s not just a meme. This is how Spanish extreme photographer Fernando Marmolejo really cleans his Olympus cameras.

One of the most standout features of Olympus mirrorless cameras is just how well weather-sealed they are. You can practically hose them off to give them a good cleaning at the end of your day of shooting and they just keep on going. Not all camera systems fare so well, so how does Olympus do it?

While not the only company that offers good weather sealing, it is highly regarded as being amongst the best in the industry. Dave Etchells at Imaging Resource wanted to find out what goes into weather sealing a camera, so they took a trip to the Olympus R&D HQ in Japan to chat with Imaging Product Development manager, Takao Takasu.

Fuji lens found after four months in the wilderness, rain and extreme temperatures, and it still works

It looks like Fujifilm takes weather sealing of its lenses very seriously. Steve Boykin of 35mmc recently lost a Fuji XF 23mm f/2 lens during a hike in the wilderness, firmly believing that he’d never find it. However, he did find it four months later, which is pretty incredible on its own. But what’s even more unbelievable that the lens is almost intact and it still works perfectly fine!

People seem to have been switching over to the Sony A7RIII faster than I can blink. I’ve seen quite a few switching from both Nikon and Canon since its announcement. But it seems there’s one area where Sony still falls somewhat short. Weather sealing. It’s always been their Achilles heel, but people had been hoping it’s improved with the A7RIII. These days, most cameras and lens build quality is pretty high. Even if not completely weather sealed they can still take quite a lot of abuse from nature. Sometimes, though, you do want to take the extra step to protect your kit.

Landscape Photographer Benjamin Jaworskyj has a great tip to help cover your gear at virtually no cost. I used to use one of the more expensive solutions. It worked rather well, but it always did feel like overkill. This solution is much easier, and uses less room in your camera bag.

French photographer tests the Pentax K1’s weather sealing by rubbing it in mud and giving it a bath

Ricoh’s Pentax K1 camera has proven to be a respectable full-frame camera that puts the Pentax name back on the map. One of its main features is its magnesium alloy body, which Ricoh claims is thoroughly weather-sealed.
