Initially announced last month along with a couple of other lenses, the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Super Macro is now official. Today, Laowa has released pricing and availability information for the new lens. Following on from the success of the Laowa 60mm f/2.8 2:1 macro, the new Laowa 100mm f/2.8 goes above and beyond most similar focal length macros by increasing the magnification ratio to double that of its competitors.

Venus Optics has launched a new lens for DJI X7 cameras on DJI Inspire 2 drones. Laowa 9mm f/2.8 DL Zero-D is the widest lens yet for these cameras, and the “Zero-D” stands for “zero distortion.” Despite the very wide angle, the lens is designed to reduce the optical distortion to a close-to-zero level.

The Laowa 24mm f/14 2:1 Probe lens is definitely the weirdest macro lens I’ve ever seen. It was presented at Photokina way back in in 2016, and now it’s finally available for preorders. Venus Optics has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund this “weird, but revolutionary” lens and the funds have already gone through the roof. The company has also published a video with plenty of sample footage, and seeing that, I’m not surprised that so many people want to own this crazy lens.

The new Laowa 12mm f/2.8 is designed for full frame and almost distortion free

Ultrawide angle lenses are practical and fun. Almost every landscape, architectural, wedding or event photographer has one, as do many filmmakers. I have one, too. The problem with most of them, though, is barrel distortion. Usually, the wider the lens, the more of it you get.

You can fix Barrel distortion in Lightroom, but it’s easier if you don’t have to deal with it at all. The new Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D from Venus Optics uses 16 elements in 10 groups to eliminate barrel distortion almost entirely.

Nicky Bay’s Review of the Venus Optics 15mm Wide Angle Macro Lens

[Editor’s note: we recently covered the announcement of this lens and shared a hands on review, but this one provides a more in-depth look at it. Many of you will remember Nicky from his spectacular UV macros of arthropods]

Venus Optics sent me an early pre-production copy of the Venus Optics LAOWA 15mm f/4 1:1 Wide Angle Macro, the world’s first ultra-wide angle macro lens capable of magnification up to 1:1, and I have been dabbling with it in the past week to publish a first look for this one-of-its-kind lens.

Wide angle macro photography is a rarely explored genre of macro photography, largely due to the lack of readily available equipment or accessories to allow one to focus up close with a wide-angle lens. It is also a difficult beast to tame due to the short working distance. Composition and lighting can be very different from mainstream macro photography but once you get the hang of it, the resulting perspectives can be mind-blowing and very well worth it.

Hey everyone, thanks for visiting! I’m Will Chao, a wedding photographer in Melbourne. When I was first asked to review this lens, I didn’t believe such a lens existed and thought it was a low quality toy lens. I mean, how could I? A lens of this type has been unheard of until now, and suffice to say I was very pleasantly surprised.
