With your new camera picked out, it’s time to get a lens. Or maybe you’re happy with your cameras, but you fancy trying a new lens. Whichever might apply to you, here are a few of our favourites that were either announced or released this year. A couple of the lenses in this list were announced before 2020, but it took a while for them to actually exist!
It’s been a little while in the making, but Vazen has now completed its Anamorphic lens trio for Micro Four Thirds, first announced in June 2019, with the availability of the Vazen 65mm T2 1.8x Anamorphic lens. This adds to the 40mm T2 announced in the same month and the 28mm T2.2 released in February of this year.
All three lenses in the set cover a Micro Four Thirds sensor and offer a 2.39:1 aspect ratio when desqueezed. It’s not an inexpensive set, though, with each lens costing $3,250. That’s $9,750 for all three and no “package” containing all three for a discounted price has yet been announced.
Vazen is a relatively new Chinese lens manufacturer that only really seems to have come onto the scene last year. But they jumped straight in with the anamorphic lenses, initially launching a 40mm T2 1.8x for Micro Four Thirds and following it up in February of this year with the promised 28mm T2.2 1.8x for MFT.
Today, though, Vazen has announced a new addition to their lineup. But this one’s not for Micro Four Thirds. Oh, no, this is an 85mm T2.8 1.8x Anamorphic lens designed specifically for full-frame cameras.
Vazen is a newcomer to the world of lenses, with its Micro Four Thirds lenses first spotted during Cine Gear Expo last year in Los Angeles. There, they showed off three lenses at 28mm, 40mm and 65mm focal lengths. The 40mm T2 1.8x Anamorphic lens was launched at the end of June 2019, and now Vazen has officially announced the 28mm T2.2 1.8x Anamorphic lens for Micro Four Thirds.
Yesterday, we kicked off our 2019 gift guide with cameras. Today it’s time for the lenses. We had a think about some of our new favourites we’ve tried this year, some of the very cool new ones that have been released as well as a couple of classics that just always remain popular and useful.
Chinese lens manufacturer Vazen has brought some rather interesting new lenses to the Cine Gear Expo. Spotted by Newsshooter, there appear to be three lenses coming at 28mm, 40mm and 65mm focal lengths, each having a 1.8x anamorphic effect. And they’re made for Micro Four Thirds cameras with 4:3 sensors (like the Panasonic GH5). With 1.8x squeeze they allow you to shoot 2.39:1 footage on a 4:3 sensor.
