Blackmagic has announced a massive price drop with the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K camera. They’ve knocked 40% off the purchase price for the body alone, bringing it down from $9,995 to $5,995. And this isn’t just a sale, either, this is a permanent price reduction, according to a post on the Blackmagic Facebook page.

Released last year, the Blackmagic URSA Pro Mini 12K, like the name suggests, allows you to shoot 12-bit Blackmagic RAW footage up to 12K resolution at 60 frames per second. Dropping down the resolutions, you can get 8K DCI at up to 110fps or 4K Super 16 at up to 220fps. It’s an impressive tool, to say the least.

Holy wow… 8K dead already? Blackmagic has just announced a new URSA Mini Pro camera that shoots 12K RAW video. Yes, that’s right. 12K. A Super 35mm sensor with a whopping 80-megapixels. 12,288 x 6,480 pixels. And it shoots them at up to 60 frames per second. In 12-Bit Blackmagic RAW.

But you know what’s even more insane? The URSA Mini Pro 12K costs less than $10K. Just. It’s $9,995. But technically that is less than $10K. If you didn’t catch the event while it was live, here’s the stream archive (scrub ahead to 30 mins if it doesn’t start there automatically)…

The advancement in camera technology is pretty astounding. I remember only a decade ago shooting with great big standard definition Sony DSR500 broadcast cameras that were £7,000 a piece for the body alone. Now, here we are with 4K UHD monsters that have so much higher quality, detail, colour and tone, it’ll make your head spin. And they’re here at less than half the price.

Blackmagic have today announced their new URSA Broadcast camera for TV and the web. Retailing for a mere $3,495, it’s a very attractive looking piece of kit. It offers B4, PL, EF and F mount lens options, and four memory card slots. It will output to 12Bit DNx145, DNx220X, ProRes and even RAW video for many broadcast and editing workflows.

Blackmagic Design’s URSA Mini 4K and URSA Mini 4.6K have been extremely popular amongst cinematographers. And for good reason. They are extremely capable cameras that provide excellent results. But, there are features that users have been asking for. Features that would make them even more powerful and faster to use.

In response, Blackmagic Design have today announced the new URSA Mini Pro. It’s a new 4.6K model that features built in ND filters, an interchangeable lens mount, and dual C-Fast and UHS-II SD card slots. It’s a pretty beefy update to the URSA Mini line, and one that will offer some very welcome additions to filmmakers everywhere.
